Located around 58 kilometres (36 mi) northeast of Brisbane, Moreton Island is situated to the east of Moreton Bay and is the third largest sand island on the planet. Known as the ‘Gem of Southeast Queensland’, the Island is extremely popular due to its unspoiled nature and serene atmosphere. There are no roads on Moreton Island, so as soon as you step foot on this paradise, you feel like you’re stepping onto an isolated tropical wonderland, with its achingly beautiful scenery of aqua blue water, golden sweeping beaches and lush tropical flora.

Of course, the absolute best activities you can partake in on Moreton Island are relaxing on the beach, swimming in the crystal clear ocean and strolling through the cool forest; however, if you’d like more excitement, there are a number of fun-filled activities you can participate in. From resort activities to sand boarding / tobogganing, kayaking, outrigger canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing and even beach Segway. The Island offers amazing opportunities for snorkelling and scuba diving. The Tangalooma Shipwrecks (which were deliberately placed along the coast as a surf break) are a haven for marine life and the area is known as one of the most diverse marine eco-systems in Queensland. Finally, there’s one activity that’s sure to delight everyone – hand feeding the dolphins at Tangalooma Island Resort. These inquisitive and friendly bottlenose dolphins are an absolute delight to interact with, making Moreton Island a destination for all!
